About us
The Mpumalanga Youth Choir is a proudly South African choir made up of passionate and talented young singers from across the province. Founded with the vision of developing musical excellence and promoting youth talent, the choir has grown into one of Mpumalanga’s most recognized and respected cultural ambassadors.
Our members represent various schools and communities, united by one common goal — to share the joy of music and the power of harmony. Through dedication, discipline, and teamwork, the choir continues to perform at local and national stages, captivating audiences with every performance.

Our Mission
The Choir strives to maintain a level of musical superiority in both choice and performance of repertoire. The youth’s abilities are developed, offering pupils the opportunity to share Their passion for music. What the choir does that many people don’t notice is keeping the youth out of the streets. The choir adds splendour to community events and contributes to the upliftment of historically disadvantages communities.
Sound parent-participation through means of a supportive system is invaluable to the existence and functionally of the choir. The choir represents Mpumalanga, both nationally and internationally, in such a way as to display the South African multicultural heritage in a responsible and balanced matter. Furthermore, to bring back and learn the beauty of choir music to the broader multi-racial public, young and old.
We envisage to rekindle the desire in the youth to sing choral and entertainment music by singing it in such a manner as to create the yearning in the hearts of the youth to be part of the chorus and the desire in the older generation to listen once again to the younger generation make this mellifluous music.
To see ourselves on international stages and making our province Mpumalanga and our Country South Africa proud.
Our Vision
To establish and maintain a culturally diverse, geographically representative, and balanced youth choir, that will internationally represent Mpumalanga and South Africa with pride.
Our Values
Passion – We sing with heart and purpose.
Unity – We are one family with one voice.
Excellence – We aim for the highest musical and personal standards.
Discipline – We grow through commitment and teamwork.
HERALDRY

Emblazoned within the colours of Mpumalanga (previously the eastern Transvaal), the coat of arms, designed in 1981, is symbolic of the cultural union within the province of the objective of reaching out to the community through high quality choir song. The triangular design incorporating the choirmasters extended arms, supports the statement of Philip McLachlan, the father of choir music, – “my biggest moments in music production is when the perfect triangle forms between the choir, the choirmaster and the creator. That is inspiring”. The symbolic ‘rising sun’ is incorporated into select informal attire, with maroon, black and yellow, adorning the gilets in which the choir performs.
